To the detractors of the Crucifire -

You have to bear in mind's its intended use: kick-Jesus-in-the-face-with-his-own-severed-leg death metal, and nothing else. It's meant to make an impression on stage, and that's exactly what it does. There's much to be said for theatricality, and when Vital Remains steps on wearing spikes, armour, goalie masks from hell (as was the case when Glen Benton toured with them) and a guitar shaped like a fuckin' demon cross with, like, spikes and glowing '6'es and shit, it really sets the mood appropriately. I was actually in the crowd the first time it was brought out, and the reaction was really something else.

"What the f... Is his guitar glowing?"
"Is that a cross?"
"Holy shit, dude..."
"HAHAHAHAHA!"

And so forth.

If Tony Lazaro walked into a blues gig with it... well, actually that would be completely awesome, so I can't really make the statement with this one that I had wanted.

In any case, just try to place it in the context as part of a stage show that's intimately mated to the musical content, rather than a tasteful example of the luthiery craft in and of itself - although, personally, I think it's cool to see such an original shape, regardless of its "silliness," and the guitar has held up remarkably well given what its been through. Tony sweats like a yak in a parka.
