The Carvin had great unplugged tone so I was fairly certain that it was going to sound good with good pickups, but I'm not sure about the JP. If anyone has tried the basswood + M7 combo before please share your thoughts.  The custom DiMarzio in the neck position of the JP7 was just about as perfect a neck pickup as one could want but the bridge just didn't do it for me.  Maybe the M7 could fix that issue? |
For what it's worth, Tim @ BKP told me the 'Holy Diver' and 'Miracle Man' models he installed for Iced Earth's basswood Ibanez guitars sounded amazing, apparently they used it on one of their more recent albums.
I also found the DiMarzio Evolution 7 sounds great in basswood. I definitely don't like how EMGs, Duncans or most DiMarzios sound in basswood though.
