Hmm. How close, in millimeters, is the pickup from your strings when you fret at the 24th fret? The Blaze isn't the hottest pickup in the world, but it's certainly quite a bit hotter than your average humbucker.

TomAwesome, Petrucci uses a D-Sonic now, but he's more known for the tones he recorded with a Blaze (Awake) or a Steve's Special (basically he asked Dimarzio to make him a 6-string version of the Blaze, and this is what they came up with - everything after "Awake" up until he switched to EBMM, and even then he was basically using a slightly tweaked version of this pickup). The D-Sonic has only started appearing on his signature model and in live shots within the last year or two.
